A&W Behind the brand.

The Story

A&W’s origins trace back to a humble roadside Root Beer stand, initially serving refreshments to passing motorists. Established by Roy Allen, the venture saw an expansion when Allen joined forces with Frank Wright, an early franchisee turned business associate. This collaboration led to the establishment of A&W, deriving its name from the initial letters of their surnames. From these modest beginnings, the brand flourished into the iconic franchise we know today.

How it started?

The original logo featured a circular design with an arrow, symbolizing the drive-in service and the frosty mug experience synonymous with A&W Root Beer. While it wasn’t directly inspired by tire designs, the circular shape could be associated with the wheels of automobiles. The arrow, on the other hand, embodied the brand’s commitment to swift service.

One step closer.

After A&W expanded its offerings to include burgers, demand skyrocketed. In response, the brand revamped its logo design to reflect this shift, creating a logo reminiscent of a burger. This burger-inspired logo became iconic and has remained a staple of the brand ever since.
